World of Warcraft Subscription Cost: What You’ll Actually Pay in 2026

In the US, World of Warcraft costs $14.99 for one month. The price drops to $13.99 a month on the 3-month plan and $12.99 a month on the 6- and 12-month plans. The current expansion, Midnight, is a separate one-time purchase. Prices below were checked on October 1, 2026.

The headline number is only part of the picture. What you pay depends on your region, how long you commit, whether you need the latest expansion, and whether you pay in cash or gold. Here is how it works.

How Much Does WoW Cost Per Month?

Blizzard sells recurring plans through the Battle.net shop. The US totals are $14.99 monthly, $41.97 every three months, $77.94 every six months and $155.88 every twelve months.

Plan (US)BilledEffective monthlySaving vs. monthly
1 month$14.99$14.99None
3 months$41.97$13.99$12 per year
6 months$77.94$12.99$24 per year
12 months$155.88$12.99$24 per year

The 6- and 12-month plans cost the same per month. The difference is the extras: special-offer bonuses only come from buying the matching plan in the Battle.net Shop, not from other ways of adding game time. Blizzard changes these bonuses from time to time, so check the shop listing for what’s attached right now.

Paying monthly for a full year costs $179.88. The 12-month plan costs $155.88, which is the same $24 saving the table shows.

What Does a WoW Subscription Include?

One subscription covers several versions of the game:

  • Modern WoW (Retail): game time covers levels 1-80 in World of Warcraft, levels 1-60 in WoW Classic, and levels 1-90 in Mists of Pandaria Classic.
  • Classic versions: the Classic servers use the same account and the same payment.
  • Older expansions: Blizzard sells the latest expansion separately, but your subscription covers the older content. That includes Dragonflight and earlier.
  • World of Warcraft: Forever: it launches November 4, 2026 and is included in the standard subscription at no extra cost. It’s the new Classic-style version, capped at level 60.

The optional Forever packs add cosmetics, beta access and similar extras, but they aren’t required. The US shop lists them at $29.99, $59.99 and $79.99. If you only want to play, the subscription is enough.

Do You Need to Buy Expansions Too?

Only for the newest one. Midnight’s Base Edition is $49.99 and includes The War Within, a level 80 character boost and early housing access. Midnight raises the level cap to 90. The Heroic and Epic editions run $69.99 and $89.99, and Epic includes 30 days of game time.

If you want to level into the current endgame, Midnight is effectively mandatory. If you’re happy with Classic, Forever, or older Retail content, you can skip it.

Here is what a first year looks like for a new US player on Retail:

  • Casual (3 months): Midnight Base ($49.99) plus the 3-month plan ($41.97) comes to $91.96.
  • Committed (12 months): Midnight Base ($49.99) plus the 12-month plan ($155.88) comes to $205.87, or about $17.16 a month in year one. After that it’s $12.99 a month.

WoW Subscription Price by Region

Blizzard sets prices per currency, so the number varies by where you live.

United States: $14.99 per month, as shown above.

United Kingdom: Prices rose on June 22, 2026. The 1-month plan went from £9.99 to £10.99, the 3-month from £28.17 to £30.43, the 6-month from £52.14 to £55.79, and the 12-month from £104.28 to £111.58. That works out to about £9.30 a month on the longer plans.

Europe (EUR): The European store lists €12.99 for one month, €11.99 a month on the 3-month plan, and €10.99 a month on the 6- and 12-month offers, with €131.88 for a year. Turkey also moved from lira to euro pricing at the same time as the UK increase.

Canada and Australia: Third-party guides disagree on the exact figures, which suggests recent adjustments. Canada is roughly CAD 19-22 for a single month, and Australia is roughly AUD 20-24. Treat those as ballparks and check the Battle.net shop before buying.

Malaysia and other regions: A Battle.net price tracker listed Malaysia at MYR 71.25 for one month. That figure was recorded earlier this year, so confirm it in your own shop. Local taxes can also change the final amount at checkout.

Can You Play WoW Without Paying?

Yes, but only to level 20. The free trial, called the Starter Edition, allows levels 1-20 with limited social features and no Auction House, trading or mail. It’s a decent way to test a class, but you’ll hit its limits quickly.

How to Pay for WoW With Gold

Use the WoW Token. The Token lets you exchange in-game gold for 30 days of game time or Battle.net balance. You buy a Token from the Auction House with gold, and it’s sold to the player who wants gold for cash. That means its gold price floats with the market.

I haven’t included a gold figure because the price moves daily. Check the Auction House for the current rate. You also need an active subscription to use the system, so the gold route covers renewals rather than your first month.

Subscription vs. Game Time

Game time is the non-recurring option. Sixty days costs $29.99 in the US shop. It works out to the same $14.99 a month as the monthly plan, but it won’t auto-renew, so there are no surprise charges. The trade-off is that it doesn’t qualify for the long-plan bonuses. Game time suits returning players who want to check out Midnight or Forever without committing.

Has the Subscription Price Gone Up?

In the US, the $14.99 monthly price is unchanged in the September 2026 listings. The real changes have been regional: the UK’s 10% rise to £10.99 in June, and Turkey’s switch to euros. Blizzard has said it reviews pricing regularly based on market conditions, so don’t assume the US price is permanent. I haven’t found any announced US increase.

Is WoW Worth It in 2026?

For active players, usually yes. Here is how I’d weigh it:

  • If you play regularly, the cost per hour is low. At roughly 10 hours a week, $12.99 a month comes to about $0.30 an hour. That’s my own estimate, not a Blizzard figure.
  • If you play in bursts, use the 3-month plan or game time around major patches. Midnight updates and Forever’s November 4 launch are natural return points.
  • If you’re curious but unsure, use the Starter Edition first, then decide.
  • If budget is tight, commit to a 6-month plan only once you know you’ll play, and consider paying future months with Tokens.

Remember that you pay for Retail and Classic on one account, which is a better deal than it first looks.

Why Does WoW Have a Subscription Fee?

It’s a revenue model Blizzard has used since launch, funding servers, live updates and new content. Blizzard hasn’t published a breakdown of where the money goes, so I won’t guess at one. The practical effect is that the base game’s ongoing updates are covered by the fee, while large expansions are sold on top.

World of Warcraft subscription cost increase

Blizzard’s built-in discount is the longer plans, which cut the US price to $12.99 a month. Bonus items attach only to plans bought through the Battle.net shop. Third-party keys are sold at your own risk, and they may not qualify for those bonuses.
